Current negotiations have opened for the UPTE-CWA full forthe 2023-2026 academic years which begins July 1, 2023.
CWA members were previously given a 6.5% raise effective July 1,2022,that was ratified through a previous negotiation cycle.
At the November 2022 Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved a 6.5% raise for
CWA (part-time faculty) and approved by the Board at the October 2022 meeting. This
raise was effective July 1, 2022, for CWA.
The District has originally offered CWA a 2.5% increase also to be retroactive to
July 1, 2022, at our January 23, 2023, bargaining meeting.
At our second meeting on April 25, 2023, after consulting with our Budget team, the
District offered CWA 10.5% increase again retro to July 1, 2022, even though that
contract year has closed.
Although the current fiscal (2022-2023) year was previously closed to further negotiations following
the completion of that year’s negotiations cycle, an additional 10.5% has been offered
for the current fiscal year to be applied retroactively as noted in the bullet point
above.
In addition to the 10.5% raise, the District at both the January and April negotiation
meeting the follow for office hours:
Associate faculty office hours to be scheduled:
Unit members will be eligible to receive up to one (1) office hour for every unit
taught during the semester. (6 units = eligibility up to 6 office hours per semester)
The rate of compensation for office hours will be paid at $30.00 per hour to those
who have provided hours in their syllabus and approved load sheet.
Associate faculty members commensurate with their teaching assignment. (i.e., if teaching
100% of their assignment is online the office hours can be remote, if 40% of their
assignment is face to face then 40% office hours would be face to face).
Office hours will be posted in the Associate Faculty Member class syllabus and on
the associate faculty approved load sheet.
The District proposed that the evaluation process include annual student evaluation.
The District proposed improving and updating the language under Article X Leave to
allow CWA members flexible with their sick leave to be utilized for appointments and
to care for family members.
The District although has fulfilled the obligations of SB 1379 Seniority right in
the current contract, we are working with CWA to improve the language.
The District does currently offer Health and Welfare benefits to associate faculty
who exceed 30 hours per week as per the Affordable Care Act.
