Counseling services available

November 8, 2019

Dear Students,

I wanted to reach out to you tonight because the lock down today on the San Jacinto Campus was traumatizing. I am grateful you are safe and I know many of you may be feeling unsettled.

We at MSJC understand that some of you will need time to recover, regroup and reflect. We are offering options to help you during this time:

Crisis and mental health counseling will be available at the San Jacinto Campus Health Center on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 10 AM to 5 PM and again on Friday November 8 from 8:00-Noon for those wishing to discuss their experiences and get tips on how to deal with the aftermath of the lock down. The San Jacinto Campus Student Health Center is located in Modular 1540 – between the Café & the Veteran’s Office. You can walk in or call 951-487-3206. At the Menifee Valley Campus, the Student Health Center is in room 723. Walk in or call 951-639-5206.

If you feel you need to take time off from your classes on Thursday or Friday, please notify your instructor immediately.

The swift arrest of the suspect by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and their increased presence goes a long way in calming fears, but we know there is still healing that needs to take place. People recover in different ways. If your way is to go back to business-as-usual, you will be welcomed by MSJC faculty, staff and an increased law enforcement presence. If you need time to reflect, we support you. Just be sure you notify your instructors so they are aware and can assist you as needed.

We are grateful you are safe at home tonight. Please know we are here to support you. We have many resources available and encourage you to please use them as necessary. We will continue to keep your safety our priority so you can focus and be successful in achieving your educational goals.

Sincerely,

Dr. Roger Schultz
