MSJC Encourages Students to Register for New Drone Program

12/20/2022

Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) is launching a unique Drone Application Certificate program this spring that will teach students the basics of drone operations in the Geospatial Information Science (GIS) field.

As the only program of its kind in the California Community College system, students will get hands-on experience in MSJC's newly remodeled GIS lab, on state-of-the-art computers, and with an expansive fleet of drones.

Job opportunities as a drone or unmanned aerial systems (UAS) pilot are rapidly popping up throughout the region and state. These cutting-edge skills will launch students into versatile careers in several industries, all the while commanding an entry-level annual salary of about $60,000.

There are a variety of industries adopting these drone-related positions including construction, surveying, real estate, agriculture, law enforcement, and more.

Registration is open now for the new certificate program that takes only eight months to complete.

“There are many, many job opportunities out there,” Professor and GIS Chair Dr. Roy B. Mason explained. “That’s why we’re really honing in on this. We want to get an inroad into that market.”

Information about MSJC’s Drone Application certificate program is available in the college catalog.
