Calvin L. Smith

Calvin L. Smith was appointed on October 30, 2023, by the Mt. San Jacinto College Board of Trustees to serve Trustee Area 2. A lifelong resident of the San Jacinto Valley and a San Jacinto High School alumnus, Trustee Smith has dedicated decades to serving the community he calls home. As the owner of C.L. Smith Hay & Grain, he has combined entrepreneurship with deep civic involvement, supporting local economic development, workforce preparation, and quality of life.

A strong advocate for Career Technical Education, he is passionate about expanding access to hands-on training and career pathways that lead to meaningful employment and economic mobility. His background includes aviation training, professional coursework with the Eastern Municipal Water District, and participation in the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Citizens’ Academy, all of which reinforce his belief in lifelong learning and practical education.

Guided by a service-centered leadership philosophy, he has volunteered extensively with local Career and Technical Education programs, the Gettysburg Leadership Program, and the Hemet-San Jacinto Action Group. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the Healthy Valley Foundation and as a Trustee of Mt. San Jacinto College.

Smith has received recognition from the Valley Wide Parks and Recreation District, San Jacinto Unified School District and is an honorary member of the Hemet and San Jacinto Future Farmers of America chapters.

In 2025, he was honored with the Hemet Exchange Club’s Book of Golden Deeds Award in recognition of his longstanding commitment to community service, workforce development, and civic engagement.
