Notice of Vacancy
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Trustees of Mt. San Jacinto Community College District will begin accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees. Applications will be available beginning at 8:00 AM on Thursday, October 5, 2023 through at 4:30 PM on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Temecula Valley Campus, Front Lobby to the attention of President’s Office/Jacqua Morrison, 41888 Motor Car Parkway, Temecula, CA 92591, or on the District web site www.msjc.edu under Notice of Board of Trustees Vacancy.
Interviews will be conducted during a public meeting to be held at the Temecula Valley Campus, 3rd Floor Board Room (TA-301), 41888 Motor Car Parkway, Temecula, CA, 92591, on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 4:00 PM At that time, the public will have the opportunity to comment. The Board will select the appointee by a majority vote.
Persons applying for the vacancy must reside in Trustee Area 2 and meet the legal qualifications for Board members as detailed in Education Codes 72103 – 72104:
(a) Any person, regardless of sex, who is 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the state, a resident of the community college district, a registered voter, and who is not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office, is eligible to be elected or appointed a member of a governing board of a community college district without further qualifications.
Education Codes 72103 – 72104 also provides that:
(b)(1) An employee of a community college district may not be sworn into office as an elected or appointed member of that community college district’s governing board unless and until he or she resigns as an employee. If the employee does not resign, the employment will automatically terminate upon being sworn into office. (Education Code §72103)
The person appointed shall be sworn in on and shall be afforded all the powers and duties of a Board Member upon appointment.
The person appointed will fill the vacated Trustee Area 2 seat for the remainder of the term, which ends November 5, 2024.
