MSJC Seeks Applicants for Vacancy on Board

10/4/2023

Mt. San Jacinto College is seeking applicants interested in filling a seat left vacant after former Trustee Joshua Rivera resigned to relocate outside of his Trustee Area. The board decided at a special meeting on Oct. 2, 2023, to make a provisional appointment to cover the remainder of Rivera’s term. His seat is up for election in November 2024.

The decision to make a provisional appointment saves the college district $250,000, which is the cost to hold a special election. Qualified candidates must live in Trustee Area 2, which covers parts of San Jacinto and most of Hemet.

During the special meeting, the board selected Trustee Brian Sylva to serve as board chair and Trustee Jhalister Corona to serve as clerk of the board. Previously, Rivera served as chair and Sylva served as clerk. The board will hold its annual organizational meeting in December.

Applications will be available beginning at 8:00 AM on beginning on Thursday, October 5, 2023 through 4:30 PM on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Temecula Valley Campus, front lobby, 41888 Motor Car Parkway, Temecula, CA 92591, or on the District web site msjc.edu under Notice of Board of Trustees Vacancy.
