Executive Senate President - MVC (1 Seat, 2 Confirmed Nominations)

Aloha. My name is Anjeanette Oberg. I am humbly submitting my name for consideration as President for the Academic Senate Menifee Site Council. For those of you who may not know me, I teach Psychology. Although I am assigned to the Menifee Campus, I currently serve as a District Wide Chair, and I have taught classes at all three campuses. I have been with MSJC since 2010, starting as a Faculty intern under the mentorship of Richard Kandus. I became an Associate Faculty Member in 2011, and then secured a full time position in 2016. I have seen a lot of growth and change here at MSJC, and we have a lot to celebrate, including an incredible focus on student success and well-being. Central to that mission is FACULTY success and well being. I believe the classroom to be a sacred space for growth and learning, and we need all of the same support and resources to be successful in our roles, as students need from us. Over the years, I have been honored to serve our faculty and students in a number of ways including serving on The Academic Senate for 4 years, and Executive Senate for 2 years, where I served as The Vice President for the Menifee Site Council and Flex Coordinator. I have also served on a number of committees including the Equal Employment Advisory Committee (EEO), Equity Committee, Institutional Planning Committee, and Professional Development to name a few. Additionally, I have served on several Ad Hoc Committees to launch important initiatives, services, and programs at the college including Health Services, The Eagles In Flight Program, the Social Justice Degree, the Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee, the Asian American Pacific Islander Desi American Affinity Group, and others. Finally, I have served as a Faculty Advisor to a number of student clubs including the Sexuality and Gender Alliance. In all of my roles, I have been deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. I am a strong advocate for faculty and students, and I am always willing to lean into brave conversations and use robust dialogue to identify needs, understand diverse experiences and perspectives, and inform potential solutions across a variety of areas. My goal as Senate President would be to protect and strengthen faculty voice and representation in the governance of the college, in alignment with 10+1. That work is not possible without strong partnerships with our Faculty Unions and the other constituent groups on campus. I am committed to building and sustaining communicative and collaborative relationships with our Faculty Unions, Classified Senate, Student Government, and Administrative colleagues. Most importantly, I am committed to supporting my faculty colleagues in this role. I promise to always be open to hearing your concerns and perspectives and working to support transparent and inclusive processes that allow us to have robust dialogue and inclusive decision making as a faculty body. While there will always be some areas where we cannot reach consensus, I always want to ensure everyone is heard and that concerns are considered and addressed in a compassionate and collegial way. I deeply value a leadership style that affirms, empowers, and inspires, and I hope to build a mutually supportive and empowering relationship with my Senate and faculty colleagues, and the other constituent leaders with whom I would have the opportunity to work. I will always bring passion and dedication to the role, and truly believe that collectively, we are changing the world, one student at a time. Mahalo nui loa for your consideration of my candidacy. I would be truly humbled and honored to serve you in this role.

Much aloha to you all,
Anjeanette

Executive Senate Vice President – SJC (1 Seat, 2 Confirmed Nominations)

Academic Senate Vice President Nomination Statement

It is with great enthusiasm that I present my candidacy for Vice President of the Academic Senate. As a dedicated educator and academic leader at Mt. San Jacinto College since 2021, I have demonstrated a consistent commitment to institutional excellence and student success through various leadership roles.

As department chair for Sociology, Social Justice, and the newly established Ethnic Studies department, I have gained valuable experience in curriculum development, program building, and faculty leadership that directly aligns with the functions of Academic Senate. My participation in establishing Ethnic Studies as a vital component of our college curriculum demonstrates my ability to navigate institutional structures while advocating for educational innovation and inclusive excellence.

My collaborative approach is evident in my service across numerous college committees, including Budget Committee, the Ethnic Studies Committees, and the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access Implementation Team. These experiences have deepened my understanding of shared governance and institutional operations while strengthening my relationships with colleagues across disciplines.

Beyond departmental leadership, my work with various as SDICCCA Co-coordinator has expanded my perspective on community college institutions, which enables me to meaningfully contribute to broader academic conversations. Additionally, my experience developing and revising curriculum and advocating for resource allocation has equipped me with the practical skills needed to serve effectively in Academic Senate leadership.

If elected as Vice President, I will bring my passion for educational equity, collaborative problem-solving, and faculty advocacy to support MSJC Academic Senate's important work. I am committed to advancing initiatives that enhance teaching and learning and ensuring faculty perspectives remain central to institutional decision-making.

I appreciate your consideration and welcome the opportunity to serve Mt. San Jacinto College in this important role.

Michael Arce

Hello,

My Name is Rodrigo Navarro Perez and I would like to serve in the faculty Senate as San Jacinto Site Council President and Executive Vice-President. I joined the MSJC community as full-time faculty in Physics in the fall of 2022. In my time here I have provided support for our students beyond the classroom by being a member of the IDEAA Implementation Team and a mentor in the Puente Program. During this

2024-2025 academic year I have also served my faculty colleagues as a Senator in the SJC Site Council. In this role I have come to learn about and appreciate the importance of faculty voices in the shared governance process. I believe that by working together towards our common goal of providing instruction and services that transform the lives of our students, all stakeholders in the shared governance process can create the right environment for our community to thrive. If elected to these positions I would collaborate with faculty, classified staff, student leadership and administrators to ensure that the faculty perspective is an essential part of the shared governance process.

Thank you for your consideration!
